UEF International field trip “Wind Energy on Forest Sites” Germany April 2016

04 - 05 April 2016

UEF International event: “Wind Energy on Forest Sites” April 2016

Fighting Climate Change is one of the big forestal tasks of today. Beside the classic forestal tool, which is sustainable and multifunctional forestry and renewable production of wood and biomass, there is also the option to support an effective green energy production on windy forest sites. UEF organized the first time an excursion on wind energy plants on forest sites on 4th and 5th of April. More than 300 wind turbines have been built on forest sites in the recent years in RhinelandPalatinate.

In cooperation with the state forest organization of Rhineland-Palatinate (Germany) the participants were welcomed in the Ministry in Mainz by the UEF President and the State Secretary in charge of forests in the region. They were guided to different types of wind farms in the forest district of Kastellaun and got information on wind power in the forest in general, on the experiences for a compatible implementation of such projects and on financial and contractual aspects of wind turbine projects in 3 workshops.

Even or perhaps because there was only a small group of participants from Switzerland and Germany it was an interesting excursion with fruitful discussions in the workshops and outside in the forests. Unfortunately many European colleagues expressed their interest in the excursion in advance, but were not able to attend at the end.

With the Forest Pedagogic Workshop last year in Bulgaria and with the Windmill Excursion this year in Germany UEF started to organize events in which practical experiences were exchanged outside in the forests. After this promising start with such additional event offers UEF is planning to go on and organize further workshop and excursions in the next years.
