International Day of Forests 21 March 2017: Forests and Energy

Sunday, January 08 , 2017 7108

Every year on the International Day of Forests, 21 March, we celebrate the ways in which forests and trees sustain and protect us.

This year we are raising awareness of how forests are key to the planet’s supply of energy, which is essential for human life.

Sustainably managed forests provide a wide range of affordable and clean energy products and services, essential for communities and economies over the world.

A UNECE/FAO video on the topic of wood energy efficiency has recently been released. In the video efficient heating technologies, combustion, pyrolysis, thermal insulation, wood storage as well as aspects of consumer health and behaviour related to wood use are visualised and explained in an easy to understand manner.

The video “More heat with less wood” is currently available in English with Russian subtitles.

UEF invites you to join all foresters and forest organizations and celebrate this International Day of Forests.
