While European Forests are strongly harmed by barkbeatles, dryness and Climate Change in general, the Civil Dialogue Group on Forestry and Cork met for the first meeting in 2019 in Brussels. As it was expected in those difficult days for European forests and forest management the main topics of the agenda went around Climate Change and the impact to the forests.
The revision of the EU Forest Strategy, the evaluation of the EU Biodiversity Strategy and the state of play of Commission work on Sustainable Finance were discussed. Further informations about the Forest based sector Technology Platform, the implementation of the Bioeconomy strategy and the implementation of the LULUCF were main points of informations.
The actual and extremly worrying condition of European forests was not thematised.
Michael Diemer, President of UEF participated as usual in that meeting and got the impression, that discussions at European Commission are close related to the big challenge of Climate change, even if not every problem is still solved.
